I don't mean to butt in on your life but I really do reccommend going to a doctor if you think you have social anxiety disorder. But only if you feel you should. I only say this because hopefully medication can help S.A.D. a whole lot, and I know from experience (obviously) that S.A.D. is a very 'life-wrecking' thing to live with. People are inherently social beings, and having anxiety about social situations is really stressful, since socializing is clearly something we were created to do.
But whatever you choose to do, that's up to you. I just hope whatever you decide, works out for you. ♥

I completely agree. As someone who as dealt with bouts of Social Anxiety Disorder, sometimes bowing out is just far easier than being around others. Depression can manifest similar reactions. It is essential for the individual to 'deal' with the depression and not allow it to become overly debilitating or damaging to their relationships. Communication and commitment are essential to get through these challenging times.

So the person is not shy with their family or friends, or in Kristen's case, a few fans, she is afraid to speak in front of small, medium or large groups of people she doesn't know aka the press. As a person who has this, I know it's very real. I'm fine with my friends and family but I will literally freak out if I have to speak in front of people I don't know. I even get anxious before going to a party, especially if I don't know the people. I've been able to overcome it a bit just through experience and sometiems meds. Xanax is a life saver. Anyway, just my 2 cents, although at this point it's about 2,000 cents worth.

Briefly, I take beta-blockers as a daily regimen (40 mg propanolol, or Inderal), in order to counteract a general anxiety disorder. I have to date experienced no unwanted side effects, and I've been taking it for 3-4 years now.
I found out about the beta-blockers in the musical world — I was participating in an amateur piano competition in Colorado Springs, and in the 1st round, while playing, began to shake more and more uncontrollably. I simply had to stop mid-stream.
After that incident, one of the judges suggested that I look into taking Inderal, which at that time I knew nothing about. As it subsequently turned out, the real reason for my shaking in performance was that I had been recently assigned a Prednisone regimen, to counteract a blood disorder. The Prednisone DID have serious side effects on my nervous system, but, again, I didn't know that at the time.
When I asked my doctor about Inderal, he immediately indicated that he knew about it, and had no problem prescribing it. Since I was having side effects (chest pains) from being weaned off a rather potent anti-anxiety drug (Stelazine), he in effect prescribed the Inderal as a “substitute,” and that's what I've been doing to this day.
Does it work? Yes, it does. However, each person has a different threshhold level of tolerance, and so you must work with the doctor to find out how much you need to get the desired calming effect without incurring physical side effects (blood pressure or heart rate too low). Apart from that cautionary comment, I highly recommend it.
I know exactly how you feel ,i've gone threw all of that too, I hate malls, foodcourts, especially I don't like waiting in long lines because i'll get agravated just knowing theres people behind me and makes me feel more pressured, I hate giving a speech infront of a class, I would always skip those speech days in class, I don't like family reunion's, parties etc. I start getting frustrated when I see tons of people, that rushes me into leaving fast, and I also make up excuses not to go.

Welcome to the anxiety club! At age 18 I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. The Best Part EVER! is having a panic attack at or in very unfortunate places or situations. Mine happened a lot while driving or in the big box stores but thanks to modern medication (hurray for pharmaceuticals!), mine are under control. My sister has them too and she is a SAHM so no worries. I find blogging has helped me tremendously because it diverts some anxiety and tension I feel in my career.
Anti – Social behaviour is exhibited by someone that cannot handle being in social situations at all. They suffer from extreme physical symptoms when in a social setting. Being a “keep to yourself' person is something COMPLETLEY different from this disorder ;D
