Instead of ” pumping” people with drugs, the Doctors should rather try to find the underlying problems ( via counselling etc.) to WHY they are suffering from Anxiety/panic attacks.

I was drinking quite a lot of coffee each day and I was getting what I thought were panic attacks. Intense fear and a feeling of unreality and deja Vu. Driving home one night I had one of these attacks and it passed off to be shortly followed by another one. The next thing I new was that I was upside down in my car hanging from my seatbelt. From what I can find out these are not panic attacks but partial epilepsy made worse by the coffee I was drinking. My panic attacks started after I lost my best friend Andrew, 23, (3 years younger than I) to cancer. My fear of dying and loss is paramount, so I think when rejection happens, like my boyfriend cheating on me, that feeling of overwhelming loss and sadness comes over me and triggers those panic attacks. Luckily, I have medicine that I am taking now to help prevent panic attacks-I went off the meds because I didn't think I Needed them anymore, but that was a wrong move. So I'm back on the meds.

I agree that Benzos do work great for anxiety, however they build tolerance and the longer you take them the more your body will need, not to mention the fact that many people develop depression secondary to the use of benzos. Benzos are not correcting a chemical imbalance, they bind to the GABA receptors, producing a calming effect.

Im 27 I started experiencing this at about 15. at its worse it would happen like 5 nights a week and, sometimes during naps. it was always accompanied by TERRIFYING hallucinations and intense vibrations in the back of my head. im a pro at handling it now. i get out of it by focusing intensely on wiggling my big toe. its easy to regain the rest of ur motor functions from there.
