Anxiety is a person’s normal reaction to conditions or situations which make us nervous, apprehensive or uncomfortable. The response may be physical, emotional or behavioral. Factors that activate anxiety can include pressures from work, stress from home, lack of exercise or sleep, or medical conditions. The food we eat is also a precondition for anxiety attacks. There are foods to help treat anxiety attacks.
There are quite a few highly recommended foods to help treat anxiety attacks. If we do not properly feed the brain’s neuro-transmitters, then it is more likely that we do not have sufficient nourishment to balance the brain’s activities. Contemplate eating foods that are rich in vitamin B and amino acids. Chicken, beef and most especially tuna are highly recommended, as well as green and leafy vegetables like broccoli, spinach and cabbage. Milk and milk products like cheese and yogurt have high-protein contents.
Although chocolates and other sweets are in general accepted as mood enhancers, these foods for anxiety attacks can only give a “roller coaster” effect on your brain activities which gives you a abrupt rush of energy and then in time pull you down to an all-time low. Stay out of food that are made of simple sugars to get rid of mood swings, and try to maintain a nourishing portion of fish, vegetables and fruits for a more stable source of energy.
But eating the right foods to help treat anxiety attacks is simply one of the likely ways to manage anxiety. Of course, the opening step is to have a consultation with a doctor who will at the outset have a fitting diagnosis to your condition so the necessary steps can be undertaken. There are cases when foods for anxiety attacks may be complemented with prescription medication, or other alternative methods.
In a good number of anxiety conditions the best treatment that is most often recommended is to undergo psychotherapies. These methods not only relieves the symptoms of anxiety, but also gives a more permanent solution to it. It teaches the person how to realize his situation and recognize the factors that causes anxiety. From there, the psychotherapist and the patient can work together on the best possible solution to anxiety attacks.

If your going to take St. Johns wart, you might as well get on Prozac. This video I'm presenting to you is a way to accomplish the same goal without the side effects you get with Prozac and the SSRI and SNRI's. Watch it again and pay attention to the part about Physiological changes which occur with the drugs that don't occur with 5-HTP. Hope that clarifies things for you. Gary
Anxiety disorder is considered to be one of the worst mental conditions that affect human beings by making them prone to baseless and groundless worries but with the arrival of anti-anxiety medications like xanax in the pharmaceutical market, successful treatment of anxiety related disorders has become an instant possibility. But, instead of straightway moving ahead to use Xanax and other medicines to treat anxiety such as Buspar and Tenormin, you can log in to and get hold of fundamental tidbits on these medicines first.
Or maybe surgery is not the best treatment for anxiety.

Another interesting entry, questions from Jane, and response. : )
This is such a refreshing way to discuss relationships rather than hearing a friend drone on about the redundant gory details of her handyman special of a (current or past) relationship. Or am I the only one who has been barraged with those? Not that I don't have empathy for my friends and their issues, it's just that they tend to go way beyond venting and never into productivity. Also usually without any notice of the anxiety it causes their listener. Sheesh!
I sense your relationship will continue down a happy path. I think we all have to accept that there will be times of boredom, indifference, and even moments of disgust. Most often these actually come from our own fluctuation of emotions. As long as the fundamental love is present on both sides, necessary level of attraction (which does not always have to do with looks), and we can accept his/her flaws as we tolerate our own … we can keep making each other smile and warm one another's heart.
You previously mentioned walking your dog. I would love to hear more detail about your relationship with her. Some of the best relationships seem to be with pets. : )

Leah says (and for once I don't disagree with her — just joking Leah!), “The solution is to treat the anxiety. It can be done.”
Of course it can be done, but will it? I don't think so, not while there are so many millions of dollars in play in creating anxiety about every facet of prostate cancer, from PSA testing/screening to the inappropriate tests and scans ordered, to the lack of clear indications of outcomes, to unneccesary adjuvant treatments (or should I say adjuvant treatments that have no demonstrable value … the list goes on. This anxiety drives men like beaters at a pheasant shoot, right into early treatment.
In the midst of all this gloomy outlook there is the faintest glimmer of light. I have personally experienced the change in attitude to what was called, so inappropriately, watchful waiting and which is now commonly referred to as active surveillance.
Thirteen years ago it was clear that the general view was that only fools and lunatics would consider such a step. The lunacy element has been removed now and men who follow this path, and the doctors who support that decisio,n are merely regarded as foolish. Perhaps as more time goes by and more studies are published, even that appellation might be removed.

Hello there,
Liz said an interesting thing to me a few weeks ago, regarding the nature of us being pulled/jumping down into the black hole again and again.
It was this:
* Anxiety causes a release of adrenaline
* Adrenaline is addictive, therefore anxiety is addictive
* Our minds end up doing whatever they can to get our next hit, hence we find ourselves constanty searching for the next problem, getting higher and higher on our evil drug.
Hmph. At least it doesn't cost money, I guess.
I try these days to place those negative thoughts in a pretty bubble and let them float away. Of course, my mind often pops that bubble on a tree branch or something, and Bad Thought sucks its way back down to me…but it works more and more frequently, i am reasonably happy to say.

Your psychiatrist sounds great.
And I treat anxiety the way you treat depression. You need to face the fear head on, because it continues to grow if you avoid. I'm still working on it with some areas I feel claustrophobic, but overall, I'm good.
I can't go on the Pill any more…hormones mess me up. I'm sorry to hear about the worries. I know what it is like to live with anxiety and it isn't fun. It will get better – the anxiety and the causes for them.
For Evi – have you tried formula with some rice cereal in it to try to alter the flavor a bit? I know sometimes they add rice cereal to bottles early on to help with reflux but maybe it could help here too?

We use deep hypnosis together with a our luggage-of-Life programme to remove all of the trauma of your past. Once the underling or the root cause of the problem disappears then the need for anti-depressants disappear. Once the negative emotions are gone they are gone forever. As for the withdrawal effects we undertake another therapy for that. People suffer no withdrawal symptoms for cigarettes, cannabis, cocaine, crack, alcohol or pharmaceutical drugs. It take two 2h sessions that all.

Is Atarax (used to treat anxiety) in the same class of drugs as Xanax and Valium?
I miss the Pam I met, the Pam I was counting on to help me become covert and accept my stuttering more. Of late each post I read, I feel like I am losing her more and more.
The person who made the second comment is right, it could be supressed feelings from childhood, or it could be current struggles in your life that is causing you anxiety and anxiety causes us to stutter more.
Dont lose yourself Pam, you are on the right path to total acceptance of yourself.
I relate to you on so many levels Lynn. The weight struggle and the bouts of depression have also been my own.
I have very little control over my life. I have been trying to grow a business for over 2 years, all the while not making any money. If you have ever had ZERO money, you understand how helpless you feel and how much anxiety it causes. I can not steer my own boat, but am at the mercy of the fiscal tides, the ebb and flow of external monetary influence on my life. Lucky for me, I have a generous (although not legally obligated) ex-husband and an absolutely fabulous boyfriend, both who contribute in their own way, for their own reasons, to my meager ability to contribute to my own maintenance.
For some reason, I am not stressed. I am not anxious. I am no longer on any meds to help me control the anxiety. It has taken years, but there has been a slow subtle shift that I attribute to having only positive relationships in my life (I know you have the same wonderful love with Steve that I have with Chris…and without that I know I would not be as calm or even tempered), but I took it farther and eliminated everyone who I felt anxious around as a result of their actions, whether aimed at me or not. I even cut my sister out of my life for a while as there was nothing positive happening there. I cut friends who had been there for me, but were no longer a positive force.
I also cut some of my own negative behaviors that were not serving me well. I used to be a snoop, micro managing information that should never have been mine. It was in an attempt to try to 'know' what was going on in the lives around me so I am not surprised in a bad way if something happens. While it came from a desire for self-defense and was conditioned response from previous negative relationships, it was also self-destructive and relationship destructive.
I think part of it was I just got tired. Being anxious takes up so much energy, time and thought. (I am starting to feel every one of my 40 years now) I was incapable of being anxious and being a good person to the people in my life. I have so many people who are generous with me, emotionally and financially, that I had to start being better to them. I still have my moments, but mostly I have a kind of zen-who-gives-a-shit attitude about things that don't REALLY matter. It took a while to cultivate, and I don't know that it is possible for anyone else to manage this way, but it has been working for me.
I am not trying to give any advice. Lord know I am not anyone who should be listened to for guidance or counseling. I have made monumental mistakes in my life and make no pretense that I have all the answers. I admire your ability to articulate your struggle and share so readily. It inspires me to write, to put down my thoughts, but I also know that I am not capable of writing with regularity and clarity that you seem to easily possess.
Love you Lynn…I don't know that any of this will help you, but I know it helps to know that someone has heard you and understands, and I do.

If you are searching to reduce your anxiety, there are many ways to do so, you can try all these new age methods of mediation, and solitude mediation, so on and so forth, but if you want my opinion the best way to deal with anxiety is some simple day to day routine along with steady medication some use Xanax to help treat anxiety, but you should find the right medication that works for you, also this is one of those times where it?s imperative to consulate your doctor !
it isn't a mystery at all why Americans are so fat. It's because we treat eating healthy as a luxury and eating bad as the norm. Our society is set up to fail in this respect from the get-go. How about make Whole Foods cheap and McDonald's a luxurious, expensive option? Pretty simple really.
Saying: “If your church is in decline and not growing, it is because your congregation has decided to die rather than to live ” is punchier for saying: “If your church is in decline and not growing, it is because your congregation has decided to act in such a way that will eventuate in death (even though they wouldn't recognize or acknowledge that).” It's something you write in the effort ot awaken people to the consequences of what they are doing. Might work. Might not. When churches decline they often become very anxious about how things are going — and that anxiety causes further problems.
Oh, I love this. And I kind of feel like I could have written it, too, only not as beautifully as you did. I completely, totally and entirely get exactly what you're saying.
(P. S. I recently started an AD to treat anxiety. I thought about you when I went to talk to my doctor about it, and I still think about you sometimes when I take my pill each night. I hope it doesn't creep you out that you're my reference for this, but that's how deeply what you've written on the subject touches me. And you know what? When that pill actually started to work it was as if I'd experienced an epiphany. Thank you for your part in that.)
Happy New Year, Eclecticstar!
That's amazing that you were symptom-free on the Zoloft! Wow.
Something must have happened in your life around the time it pooped out? Some transition?
On the other hand, it's known that psychiatric meds eventually tend to need adjustment. You're lucky, from what I read, that it helped as it did for 5 years.
The ACT is amazing. If one can really practice, and practice, and practice bringing the anxiety along — man! Then, this approach to anxiety (and even depression) is the key to a better life.
I find it difficult to sustain. Meaning, as I read the book and practice, I can do well at the grocery store. It's painful, but I go anyway.
My problem is that I got tired of being in pain all the time. Yes, with more practice my suffering lessened, but…
This is where I could use some support in the ACT area. I know it's the best treatment for anxiety out there, but it's hard to sustain without a professional ACT therapist.
I'm actually going to consider hiring a phone-ACT therapist since there aren't any near by my home.
Regarding your med question: I was completely med-free for 5 months. That was a great accomplishment! But, I was also getting more and more depressed.
In an older post, I listed all the anti-depressants I'd been on. At the time I got off all meds, there were only two classes of ADs I hadn't yet tried.
TCAs, and MAOis.
It has turned out that an MAOi patch (EMSAM), in the smallest dose cut into fourths, is a GREAT help to me.
I wear 1/4 of a 6mg patch for 12 hours. It has changed my life for the better.
I do take 2.0 mg of Valium for sleep, but I do not need this. I am in the process of tapering off the Valium.
But, I wouldn't give up the EMSAM quite yet.
Y'see ignoring this just means that I end up fighting myself – who I really am. And that just causes stress and anxiety.
